I am convinced that anyone who can artfully draw comical, personality-filled figures must themselves be quite the character! One glance at the work of Illustrator Laura Fisk, and you’ll likely agree. Her art is devoted to celebrating unusual characters in scenes full of humor: Tortilla chips cannonballing into a pool of queso, Roosters sharing some Sriracha, Coffee beans hopped up on caffeine going in every direction, and so much more. Each of her pieces are hand illustrated with her own cartoonish style, mostly line drawings full of emotion and movement. She then screen prints them on a variety of “canvases” from paper to tea towels to other goods. Some of her offerings are monochromatic, focused on the outlines of her figures and the trouble they’re getting into, while others are full of bright, light hearted color schemes that play well with the comedy at hand. For Laura, Art is an outlet for silliness. She finds inspiration is many areas of life, whether it’s a reference book, an enjoyable movie or a class on an entirely different artistic technique. She’s learned to roll with what life throws at her and harness any ideas that are likely to make someone smile. I can’t wait to see what new lovable characters and comical scenarios she comes up with!
