Artists with great talent or technique are very admirable, but what I love more is finding locals who inject their personality and quirkiness into every piece like Sarah Morningstar of Morningstar Curio. Usually this comes out in chosen subject matter or materials, but for others like Sarah, it's their whole style that shows off a dedication to their craft and a one-of-a-kind sensibility. Sarah has always found inspiration in magic and fantasy. As a tarot card reader when she's not crafting, she sees the world through mystical eyes and manages to share that with the world with her wearable art. Her medium of choice is resin, but that's really only half the story. What she adds to that resin for color or decoration and how she shapes it gives each piece true personality - glitter, sprinkles, beads, bones, claws, glow in the dark paint and so much more. Sarah signature collection features brooches commonly with a nod to the nerds in her audience. You'll see Star Wars and Star Trek references as well other sci-fi icons that you may only understand if you run in that crowd. She even carves her own molds when so inspired. My personal favorites are her Lego men pins which come in any range of colors with sparkles, sprinkles and many other additions. It's possible that her bright and imaginative son helps her with these ideas, and I love it! While I could see plenty of kinds liking her work, it's the way she appeals to our inner children as adults that's really the best! I can't wait to see her craft continue developing and evolving with ever more references to the best of nerd culture and new materials she can incorporate for flair!
