As is true of many artists, the passion that
Natalie Richardson Artero has for creating cannot be fulfilled with just one technique. In most of my profiles I focus on what stands out as the artist's true calling, but for this master I would consider her joyous use of color the core of her technique which is carried through many different crafts. As an Austin based artist raised in Bolivia, she exhibits the wonderful influences of a culture-filled upbringing and education. The beauty of Latin America shines through in every piece, but with Natalie's own twist. I was first drawn to Natalie's work because of the amazing palette of colors she uses proudly and vibrantly. This array of hues only adds to the amazing style Natalie has developed. Her representations are uniquely stylized, giving the animal or landscape true character. Consider the blue ducks and green kittens. Natalie most often uses pastels or acrylics for her animal portraits and depictions of the natural world from her childhood. As such, they all turn out so lively! Her landscapes are often done in watercolor which lends a lovely flowing nature to the sea, land or sky. Natalie has also been known to make flowers and other decorative items out of paper cache pulp that she displays in upcycled, colored bottle vases. These little things brighten an environment with the vibrancy of a colorful culture and personality. I would love to travel to Central and South America some day, but for now I can get amazingly unique tastes of these inspiring places through the work of artists like Natalie Richardson Artero!
